  • Wales Edges England – For Coastal Access
    While England waits for the Government to deliver on its commitment to coastal access, Wales is gearing up for the launch of its own version on 5 May. The new Wales Coast Path is 870 miles long, and links with the Offa’s Dyke Path to create a loop that encompasses Wales in designated National Trails totalling 1,030 miles. It’s the first coast path around an entire country.

  • National Trust Ambassador Business Scheme in Wales
    The National Trust owns and looks after large parts of upland and coastal Wales, much of which is of great value and importance for recreational activites, including climbing and mountaineering. Many outdoor providers were very concerned at the possibility of the National Trust introducing its " Ambassador Business Scheme", that could have seen licensing and charges being introduced for providers on National Trust land.

    Scotland’s mountain rescue umbrella organisation has appointed an experienced outdoor instructor with a brief to improve communications and service during a period of expected increase in demand from walkers and climbers. Shaun Roberts has taken up the post of project manager for a year with the Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland
  • Government farming reforms mean ‘uncertain time’ for walkers
    Walking and outdoors campaigners said Whitehall moves to relax farming regulations could put parts of the countryside out of bounds to recreational visitors. Farming Minister Jim Plaice announced the coalition Government was accepting 159 of the 200 recommendations made by the Farming Regulation Taskforce
